Specimen Required:

Collect: One SST/gold tube. Transport: 1.0 ml Serum (min.0.5) REFRIG.

Patient Prep:

Fasting.  Nothing by mouth except water and any required medications for 8 hours before being drawn.

Reference Values:

3.0 - 25.0 mU/L

Days Performed: Monday - Saturday
Days Reported: Monday - Saturday
Interference:

Anti-insulin antibodies.

No hemolyzed specimens.

Heterophilic antibodies in human serum can react with reagent immunoglobulins, interfering with in vitro immunoassays. Patients routinely exposed to animals or to animal serum products can be prone to this interference and anomalous values may be observed. Additional information may be required for diagnosis.

Rejection:

Hemolysis can lead to spuriously low results.
Non-fasting patient (ORDER 10009 or if unknown status)
