Preferred 25 mL from a clean-catch, first-morning urine specimen in a urine specimen cup supplied. Refrigerate specimen within 30 minutes of collection. Maintain sterility and forward to laboratory promptly, refrigerated.
A urine culture will be set up if any of the following criteria are met:

Any time a microscopic exam has been done on a urine sample of less than 10mL, this will be noted on the final report along with the following statement:
Reference ranges are for routine urinalysis using 10 mL. No reference ranges have been established for amounts <10 mL of urine.
HPF: High power field; LPF: low power field
Specimens not refrigerated within 30 minutes.
Intensely colored urine.
Grossly bloody urine.
